It’s more than knowing ABCs—and it starts earlier than you think.
Every parent wants to set their child up for success, but in the early years, many wonder:
“What does my child really need to be ready for school?”
Is it knowing their letters? Holding a pencil? Sitting still? The truth is, school readiness is about so much more than academic skills—and at Love2Learn, we’re deeply committed to preparing children holistically, from the inside out.
Whether your child is just starting to walk or on the verge of pre-K, here’s what school readiness really means—and how we nurture it every single day.
1. Self-Regulation and Emotional Resilience
Before a child can learn to read or write, they must first learn to manage their emotions, express their needs, and bounce back from disappointment. These skills—known as self-regulation and resilience—are core to long-term school success.
At Love2Learn, we teach:
- How to recognize and name emotions
- How to take turns, share, and solve conflicts
- Strategies for calming down and managing frustration
These skills start forming as early as 12 months, which is one reason we’re so excited to launch our 1-year-old classroom in June 2026. Toddlers need safe, loving environments to begin building emotional muscles—and we’re ready to provide just that.
2. Confidence and Independence
Children need to feel safe and capable in order to thrive in a school environment. We help students build self-esteem through:
- Simple routines (washing hands, putting on coats)
- Age-appropriate choices (“Do you want the blue or green crayon?”)
- Encouragement of self-help skills like feeding and toileting
Our new 2–3-year-old “transition” classroom is designed to meet the needs of children who are ready to explore more independence but still benefit from the warmth and structure of toddler care.
This gentle bridge helps them grow at their own pace without the pressure of rushing into a structured preschool setting too soon.
3. Language and Communication
Talking is learning. From baby babble to full sentences, language development is one of the best predictors of later academic success. But it doesn’t require flashcards—it requires conversation, songs, books, and play.
At Love2Learn, we:
- Narrate our day to build vocabulary
- Use songs, fingerplays, and story time daily
- Encourage children to express thoughts and feelings
- Create environments rich in print, pictures, and verbal interaction
Even in our infant and toddler programs, we start laying the foundation for strong communication skills, which become the bridge to reading, writing, and relationship-building later on.
4. Curiosity and Problem-Solving
School isn’t just about following instructions—it’s about asking questions, exploring, and figuring things out. These are skills we nurture through:
- Open-ended play
- STEM activities with real-world materials
- Sensory exploration and hands-on learning
- Dramatic play and storytelling
Rather than pushing academic drills, we follow a child-led curriculum that sparks natural curiosity and builds the foundation for lifelong learning.
5. Fine Motor and Pre-Academic Skills (Yes, Those Too)
While social-emotional development comes first, we also gently prepare children for the academic structure of kindergarten. This includes:
- Strengthening hand muscles through play (play dough, tweezers, puzzles)
- Practicing pencil grip, cutting, and gluing
- Introducing letters, numbers, shapes, and colors in developmentally appropriate ways
- Building early literacy through name recognition, rhyming, and storytelling
By the time your child completes our preschool program, they’ll have both the skills and confidence to step into kindergarten with pride.
Why Love2Learn Is a Different Kind of School
What makes Love2Learn unique is our commitment to balancing freedom with structure. We believe in:
- Small class sizes for personalized attention
