It’s a big decision—and a personal one. Some families need care for work, while others are considering it for social development or structure. No matter your reason, it’s natural to wonder whether your child is ready—and what high-quality group care should really look like for toddlers.
At Love2Learn Early Learning Center, we’ve designed our brand-new one-year-old classroom (opening June 2026) to meet the unique needs of young toddlers with love, safety, and intention. Here’s what we tell families considering this next step.
What “Readiness” Really Means at This Age
At one year old, readiness isn’t about how many words your child can say or whether they can feed themselves—it’s about their ability to form relationships, explore their environment, and feel secure in a new routine.
Signs your child may be ready for group care:
- Shows curiosity about new people and spaces
- Enjoys exploring toys and textures
- Engages in routines like napping, eating, or diaper changes
- Calms with soothing or snuggling from trusted adults
- Responds to music, stories, or playtime with interest
Even if your child is still shy, struggles with separation, or has never been in a group setting, that doesn’t mean they’re “not ready.” It just means they need a gentle transition—and that’s what we provide.
What Infants and Young Toddlers Need in a Care Environment
Children under age 2 need very different things from preschoolers. At this stage, the quality of relationships matters more than anything.
A developmentally appropriate one-year-old classroom should offer:
- Low adult-to-child ratios so every child receives attention
- Consistent caregivers who build trust through responsive care
- Safe, stimulating spaces that invite exploration
- Flexible routines based on individual sleep and feeding needs
- Intentional language exposure through talking, singing, and reading
- A loving atmosphere that honors each child’s temperament and rhythm
At Love2Learn, we view infant-toddler care as the foundation of all future learning. That’s why we’ve built a space specifically for one-year-olds to grow, explore, and connect—with caregivers trained in early childhood development and responsive caregiving.
What Your Child Will Learn in Our 1-Year-Old Room
Even without formal “lessons,” your baby is learning every moment of the day. In our new classroom, we’ll focus on:
- Language Development: naming, singing, and reading daily
- Gross Motor Skills: climbing, crawling, cruising, and walking
- Fine Motor Skills: grasping, stacking, and exploring textures
- Social Development: parallel play, turn-taking, and mimicking others
- Emotional Regulation: learning to trust, self-soothe, and signal needs
Everything is taught through play, routine, and warm connection—because that’s how young children learn best.
But What About Separation Anxiety?
Separation anxiety is normal, especially in the first few weeks of care. But with a thoughtful transition and loving support, children adjust quickly.
We help ease the transition by:
- Encouraging a gentle start (half-days, gradual drop-offs, etc.)
- Maintaining consistent routines to build security
- Offering daily communication with families
- Comforting children with predictable, warm responses
- Sharing photos and updates to reassure parents
Most children find comfort in the rhythm of the classroom within just a few weeks—and many begin to thrive once they realize it’s a place full of fun, love, and attention.
